Come to the Buffet Flats-Queering Slow Food Event September 11th!

HARVEST MOON – Shine On! September’s full moon is known as the Harvest Moon, which occurs closest to the autumn equinox. At the peak of harvest, farmers can work late into the night by the light of the Harvest Moon. Join us under a moonlit garden on September 11th, 2011 at The Tenderloin National Forest and The Luggage Store Gallery Annex, an oasis of urban beauty in the Tenderloin.

We are sewing what is torn, reaping what we know now and harvesting that knowledge with a celebratIon-salon of fresh food and wisdom from our local farms and gardens, featuring a stellar line up of artists and performers.
Our food concept this time “family recipes” – look out for crock-pots of fabulicious meals made with food harvested locally.

We invite you to join us for this evening of wild cabaret acts, Queer art, food and celebration.

BUFFET FLATS – QUEERING SLOW FOOD SERIES 

At Buffet Flats we seek to cross-pollinate local food and farming activists with performance artists into an edible event with wild cabaret acts, engaging visual art and mini expert talks all with the aim of queering the conversation about growing sustainable communities.

In moving forward in our mission of queering slow-food, making a connection to the source of local food and to encourage BURPs (Busy Urban Professionals) to cook, we invite you to help us expand our notions of Home-O-Cookin’ for this event. We need cooks, recipes and produce. This round we are reaching out to our community to share food from your gardens, your recipes and culinary secrets. To contribute a dish and receive free admission to the event email buffet@eyezen.org

At Buffet Flats we are interested in healing the racial divide in the queer community. We are reviving the history of the Pansy Craze and Buffet Flats of the 1920s & 30s to explore these issues and how they influence our communities.

In the intimate setting of San Francisco homes and gardens we re/imagine the creative possibilities to access and grow local food. We share diverse culinary approaches and create safe spaces for a diverse and healthy Queer community.

  • LINK the flourishing performance and foodie cultures and the places they intersect.
  • ENCOURAGE collaborations /cross-pollination between food activist and artists.
